Ready, set, decorate! The holidays are here. So, if you celebrate the season, you’re probably getting ready to add some festive cheer to your existing décor … assuming you haven’t been set up since right after Remembrance Day (not that we’d know anything about that sort of thing).
There are lots of fun décor trends out this year, which you’ll see on décor blogs and in the stores. Here are a few that we think you’re going to love.
The Unicorn Tree

Unicorns have been a pretty big deal for the last couple of years. Lovers of the mythical equine have gone from unicorn hair, to unicorn Frappuccino drinks, and now glitter white and pastel unicorn-inspired trees.
Canadiana

2017 has been a particularly patriotic year, likely due to our celebration of Canada’s 150th! Abd the celebrating is still happening, this time, on your Christmas tree. From Chapters Indigo’s Mountie Nutcracker to the gorgeous Winter Chalet decor line from Hudon’s Bay, the shops are ripe with a bountiful selection of holiday Canadiana.
Natural Accents

Seeded eucalyptus –Seeded eucalyptus has enjoyed a big year. As with a lot of things, its popularity as décor on the wedding circuit and eventually made its way into home décor. You may have noticed quite a bit of this leafy greenery intermingled with heirloom pumpkins and other fall décor. Fortunately, for its fans, seeded eucalyptus also pairs nicely with berry sprigs, birch branches and other common winter holiday naturals.
Cotton Bolls –Yes, they’re still here, thanks to the continuing farmhouse following. This year, you can see them in wreaths, greenery picks, and in any number of arts and crafts projects.
Wood –Wood slices, primitive ornaments, and birch poles are still very popular this season.
Cloches

The cloche has been leading holiday decorating trends for the past couple of years, and this year it has gone mass market. Go into your nearest Michael’s, Home Sense, Pier 1, Canadian Tire or other holiday décor hotspot and you are guaranteed to see at least one or holiday cloches. You can find them both prefilled and read-to-fill.
Pro Tip: Head out to your nearest thrift store and scour the shelves for old dome clocks (also called anniversary clocks). Pull the clock bits out, spray paint the base and voila, instant cloche at a fraction of the price.
