If you love the look of unencumbered kitchen walls, then this 2018 kitchen design trend is for you. We’re talking about open backsplashes. This trend offers a counter to ceiling backsplash without the presence of cabinetry to obstruct the view.
In our final video in a three-part series with AyA Kitchens and Baths, eieihome.com spoke to principal designer Amy Dillon about this sky-high style trend.
An Open and Airy Style
The open backsplash does two things particularly well. First, it’s a fantastic way to shed that closed in feeling that kitchens can sometimes have. By removing the cabinetry from this section of the kitchen, it actually works to elevate the look of the room, thereby giving the kitchen a more spacious feeling.
The second benefit of open backsplash trend is the backsplash itself. Choosing a beautiful backsplash has become a very important part of the kitchen renovation process. Yet, in most kitchens, the backsplash area is really quite small.
When you reveal more of the backsplash, especially if it’s something like a gorgeous piece of quartz or granite, it can make the space feel more luxurious.
Clear Out the Clutter
Experts agree that the open backsplash look is not for everyone. Since this design removes some of your kitchen’s cabinetry it will require an edit to the things typically stored in the space. Additionally, since the look is very clean and streamlined, it might not be best for someone who has a hard time taming the clutter in their kitchen.
