The process of choosing the right garage door company for your home or business can certainly be a challenging endeavor. Whether it is the installation of a new garage door, the repair of your existing door, or your garage opener, you want to make sure that you are dealing with a company that you are comfortable with and can trust.
Allan Grant, co-owner of Dodds Garage Doors explains, “Our company has been in business since 1958 and for 14 years in a row we’ve won the prestigious Consumers’ Choice Awards.”
Known as the best garage door company in the GTA, Grant was able to offer five expert tips for homeowners to keep in mind when choosing a garage door company:
1. Always deal with a reputable company
“Over the years I have seen so many companies come and go, but the good ones stick around,” says Grant. “And there’s a reason for this — it’s usually because the good ones treat their customers well and have developed a good reputation in the industry.” he added.
2. See what’s available out there
“The industry has changed so much over the years and there is so much more available for homeowners to choose from.” Grant said. “Insulated, non-insulated, different qualities, and so many designs to choose from — you’ll be surprised about what’s available!”
3. Garage doors are not all created equal
“About ten years ago one of my friends bought a nice quality door from Dodds and, his neighbor, at around the same time, went elsewhere and bought a lesser quality.” Ten years later, he added, his friend’s door still looks and works like new, yet his neighbour’s door had since needed to be replaced.
4. Ask questions
When buying a door always ask for a consultant to come out and educate you. Ask a lot of questions, like what the warranties are on door and the hardware.
5. Be careful when hiring
Dodds Garage Doors does not pay their repair technician’s commission on repair parts, but unfortunately, many other companies do. Grant explained, “These companies that do pay commission usually quote lower on the phone.”
Often, he added, the repairman may attempt to make their money selling extra parts that are often not needed. Buyer beware.
