Backyards come in a lot of shapes, sizes and styles. Depending on your lifestyle you might decide to leave it bare, make a garden out of it or, like Rene DeSantis, decide to make it into a luxurious backyard resort.
DeSantis decided that he wanted a backyard in place of a cottage so he worked with landscaping expert Oriole to draw up the plans for his $320,000 backyard. This yard has it all; a pool, a waterfall a fireplace, a kitchen, a shower and a cabana, even lovely flower gardens.
The backyard is designed with the four Canadian seasons in mind. The pergola over the dining area is great for rain or shine and the outdoor fireplace is fantastic for roasting marshmallows in the summer and to warm up around in the fall. The pool is remote controlled, allowing you to control the jets, lights, waterfall and of course the temperature, this allows you to use the pool late into the fall. An outdoor shower was added so that the family could rinse off the pool water and spend the whole day outside.
Of course you can’t spend a whole day without food, so there is an outdoor kitchen as well. The kitchen has a BBQ, a gas burner, sink, mini refrigerator and storage. There are few reasons to ever have to go inside on a beautiful summer day when you have a backyard like this one.
Not only is this yard great for kids and family, it is also fantastic for entertaining! Built in surround sound systems from Audio One, fantastic lighting and all the other great features mentioned make this backyard a fabulous area for an exceptional party.
But it wasn’t all roses! DeSantis put on the general contractor hat and helped design and manage the entire renovation. He worked with the landscaper for the original plans, but decided that the final price (over $700,000) was too high, so he rolled up his sleeves and got to work. He worked many hours with his sub contractors, managing the ups and downs and educating himself on what it means to be a landscaper and general contractor.
Overall DeSantis is very happy with his backyard and has already thrown some fantastic summer parties in his new backyard.
