Who is Binns Kitchen & Bath Design?
Binns Kitchen & Bath Design is owned by two brothers, Anthony and Raymond Binns. They are the second generation of Binns to own the company and already a third generation is hard at work at the family business. Binns is very proud of their newest generation, in fact two are accomplished kitchen and bath designers, and the third is in charge of marketing. The entire team isn’t related by blood, but that doesn’t stop them from being treated like family. Many of their employees have been with them since the beginning; in fact they recently had a receptionist retire after 25 years. Because they have been in the renovation business for so long, they even consider a number of their subcontractors as part of their growing family. “We rely on them, and they rely on us.” Anthony Binns tells us. “We know they will get the job done right, and they know that we are of like mind.” Binns even has subcontractors that are in their second generation as well!
What is Binns Kitchen & Bath?
Binns Kitchen & Bath Design incorporated in 1963. They started their company renovating, selling and installing cabinets and later moved on to designing and doing kitchen and bathroom renovations as well. Their first showroom is located in the east end of Toronto, in Pickering, and four years ago they opened a second location in the Toronto core.
Binns has won over 50 awards in the last 15 years. They won the Best Project from the National Kitchen & Bath Association for North America in 2009. The Binns Team is very proud of their designers and each of them is accomplished at getting first place or overall best designs in many categories in different competitions.
What does Binns specialize in?
Binns specializes in making sure that they have excellent designs that are both ergonomic and spectacular. They are also particularly proud of completing their projects on time and on budget. The Binns’ designers are experts in room solutions and redesigns, this includes floor plans, layouts and knowing when they need to play with a design to make it fit to a space and when they need to alter the space to fit the design.
What does Anthony Binns enjoy about his work?
Anthony loves working with his clients, “I don’t think I could do the job if I wasn’t working with both the clients and my team.” He enjoys it when the projects are interesting, “You get to see something made from nothing and have it end up being a work of art.”
“When we are renovating a kitchen,” Anthony tells us, “we are disturbing the heart of the home, so we try everything we can to make it easier. We put a schedule together so that the homeowner can see what’s going to happen and when. You really need to be a people person to help them (the homeowner) through the stress.”
A quick tip from Anthony Binns:
“Do not go out and buy your appliances before doing your kitchen design. Try to get integrated appliances, they are more efficient, create more space, and are easier to care for. Remember a kitchen is not just a place for storage, it’s a place to work and you have to feel good about the place you’re working in.”
Showcase Kitchen:
Binns created a kitchen in their showroom, one that wows people simply driving by their display window. The design of this kitchen hides all the appliances and even the clean up and prep areas are hidden. In fact, only the range and prep sink are visible as they are built into the island. Binns placed a crystal ball light and exhaust fan over the range for a little glitz. The clean up and prep areas are hidden by two 30” doors that open up and pocket back into the sides to reveal stainless steel counter tops. They also embedded a solid strip of LED lights into a box framing the tall units, called an archus. The archus is designed to make deep cabinets appear shallower.
The island is the centre piece of this space as it is truly unique. It is a bridge island, held up by two lower sitting and storage areas.
