Breathe New Life Into Your Home With Folding Glass Patio Doors

For a long time, swing out doors and sliding glass doors (along with the occasional dutch door) were the only options available to Canadian homeowners looking to add new patio doors to their home. However, in recent years, folding glass patio doors (also called bifold patio doors) have been receiving a lot of attention from interior designers and homeowners alike.

Available in wood, vinyl, aluminum, and fiberglass, folding glass patio doors are comprised of a multichambered, bi-folding frame with prominently featured glass panels. Rather than sliding aside or opening out, the door frame folds in on itself to be pushed flat again the connecting wall. This style is excellent for opening your space up and creating an unencumbered view of the outdoors.

When the doors are closed, the usually floor to ceiling glass panels visually extend the interior space, creating a natural feature wall.

Bifold patio doors are available in Canada from a handful of manufacturers, including well-known brands like Ostaco, Pella, Panoramic™ by Amberwood Doors, and Jeld-Wen.

Complete Customization

Bifold patio doors can be customized to perfectly suit the look and size of your home. Most manufacturers offer bifold doors in a number of different configurations and combinations. Common configurations place a set of panels on either side, or on both sides. This makes it possible to push the doors completely to one side or to divide them.

Since these doors are comprised of numerous panels, standard door sizes are not typically available.

Beyond door size, there are several other ways in which folding glass patio doors can be customized. The glass panel can be left unadorned, or you can select from a number of different grille patterns to create the look of individual window panes.
