Here’s a glimpse into this Canadian celebrity couple’s home

In this week’s edition of Celebrity Spaces, Sharron Matthews and husband George Masswohl invited us in to their Stratford, ON home. Sharron, a cabaret artist and George, an actor and musician, have furnished a beautiful sanctuary they can call home. From the furniture, to the specialty carpentry indoors, this home has a lot to offer.

How would you describe your home in one word?

Sharron: Haven.

Tell us about your home.

Sharron: How big is it?

George: I don’t know.

Sharron: How do we find that out?

George: Lord, I don’t know.

Both: It’s the perfect size. Not too big, not too small. We moved in Valentine’s Day 2011.

Special features indoors?

Sharron: French doors, all original wood work intact. A tiny closet in our dressing room that I turned into a place to worship all my shoes…and feathers. Beautiful, green stained glass piano windows. Interesting light fixtures. Chandelier in the bathroom under the biggest free-standing tub we could find.

Editor’s note: We have a directory of carpenters for you to contact if you’re looking to make architectural changes to your home!

What attracted you to this space?

Sharron: It was the perfect size. And it had a big backyard for our dogs.

Who shares this home?

George: George and Sharron (and the ghosts of our dogs).

How much time do you spend at home?

Sharron: Well, life has been getting more and more hectic over the last couple of years…we travel A LOT. But when we are actually at home, we never leave…we love it so much.

What is your favourite room?

George: I like the living room best…it is a cozy place to hang out. I am a simple man.

Sharron: I love my office studio. I have wanted a wall of bookshelves all my life…and I wanted to have a place to sing and write.

How would you describe your decorating style?

George: Clean and simple. We have spent a lot of time over the last couple of moves stream lining. We have painted the walls light, neutral greys and whites to highlight the original wood finishes and the pieces we have carefully chosen. The kitchen is RED.

What is your fondest memory in this home?

Sharron: My favourite memory was the first summer we were here. The grass was green and the sun was shining and our dogs were running around…and there was a live band  playing in someone’s backyard…and we danced and danced.

What’s the one item in this house you can’t live without?

Sharron: OUR COUCH!! It is the basis of ALL operations!!

Weekends at home, what are we most likely to find you doing?

George: Sitting on our couch. Or sitting on our porch, drinking coffee and tea and chatting with the neighbours.

If your walls could talk, what would they say?

George: “Thanks for spending the time to remove the wallpaper that covered every single inch of us when you moved in.”
