A question a lot of people have when they are redesigning their bedroom or wanting to purchase a new bed is, “How do I find the right size bed to fit my bedroom?” Finding a bed that looks too small or too big in a room makes the room look awkward. Avoid the awkwardness and learn how to find the right size for your space.
Measure
This may seem like an obvious tip, but measure the dimensions of your room and then explore the measurements of the bed size you so desire. You can find these sizes online, as most bed sizes will be the same measurements no matter where you buy them.
Bed Sizes
These are the most popular bed sizes you’ll find when you begin your shopping and who they are recommended for. Think about who will be using the bed and what size would work best in the space. Also consider how long you’ll have the mattress, experts recommend you change it up every 8 years (yes, no longer than 8!)
Double (or a full-size) bed measures 54 inches wide and 75 inches long and can also be found in an 80-inch length. A double can be a tight fit for two taller people and it is recommended that they move to a queen (if space allows).
Queen beds measure 60 inches wide and 80 inches long and can also be found in an 84-inch length. The queen bed is the perfect size for two people. With enough sleeping room for each individual person, but not going overboard.
King beds are spacious but come in two sizes. A standard, or Eastern, king-size bed is 76 inches wide and 80 inches long and the California king, which is 72 inches wide and 84 inches long. A king bed offers plenty of room for two people and is recommended for those who like to sprawl. Each person has the same amount of room given by a Twin bed (a size down from a double).
Furniture
After you measure the space where you want to put your bed, figure out if you can place your other bedroom furniture in the room as well and if there’s space to move around. If you can move around but it feels tight, consider downsizing your mattress or removing unnecessary furniture. You want to be able to sleep comfortably and be happy on your mattress for a few years, so make the proper choice. Don’t sacrifice years of comfortable sleeping for an armoire you don’t need.
Utilize Space
Take advantage of the corners of your bedroom to accommodate more space for your bed. Find corner cabinets that can fit snuggly into the wall and give you more functionality in your room. Make use of spaces you don’t even realize you have, doing so can provide you with more room for the bed of your dreams.
