Having a décor dilemma and need a shopping solution? You’re definitely not alone. We’ve recently heard about one homeowner’s dilemma, and it’s very relateable. She needs to purchase a new kitchen dining set for her home’s breakfast area. It has to be big enough to seat all members of her family of five for weekend breakfasts. It needs to be durable and easy to clean, because she has kids who use it to do homework and artwork as well as for weekday meals. On top of that, she wants the table to be attractive AND cost less than $600, chairs and all!
So we scoured some popular Canadian furniture retailers in search of a few solutions to this homeowner’s décor dilemma. Here’s what we found.
Kitchen Dining Set #1
Retailer: Ikea Canada
Seating: Space for up to 6, but only includes 4 chairs
We like this Gamleby dining set from Ikea because it offers versatility. The table can be extended to provide seating for up to six when the occasional calls for it. However, the two sides can also fold down for an intimate dinner for two. The solid pine top should stand up equally well to smears of crayon and spaghetti sauce.
Kitchen Dining Set #2
Retailer: The Brick
Seating: Space for six and includes 6 chairs
After finding lots of dining sets that only include 4 chairs, we were excited to find The Brick’s 7-piece dining set (1 table and 6 chair). Made of cashew wood and mdf, this table has fairly classic lines and is available in a dark and a light finish. It’s not likely going to be the choice for a formal dining room. However, we think it makes an excellent daily-use kitchen table and a good solution to this décor dilemma.
Kitchen Dining Set #3
Cost: $414 (Lou chair $49 x 5) + Jesse table $169
Seating: Space for 6, chairs sold separately
For something less out of the box, we went to Structube. No matched sets here. However, we managed to find a really good selection of budget-friendly tables and chairs that are sold separately. There was tons of mixing and matching potential. However, to keeps things simple, we went with a little farmhouse chic in the form of their Lou chair (x5) and paired it with a simple A-frame table that looked sturdy enough to take on our homeowner’s two kids.
Kitchen Dining Set#4
Retailer: Lowes Canada
Cost: $571 (shipping included)
Seating: Space for 6, Includes 3 chairs and 1 two-seater bench
Only final entry is from Lowes Canada. The bench included in this set offers some versatility as far as seating goes. It makes it possible to have a more compact table in the kitchen, while still giving the whole family the opportunity to sit together on the occasion. The white finish offers a refreshing option when matched up against the three previous darker sets. Although, we wonder how well it would stand up against frequent crayon, paint and marker use?
We’ve just looked at four very different kitchen dining sets to solve a common décor dilemma. The question is, which set will our homeowner choose?
