Canadian designer, Linda Mazur, discusses the must-haves in a luxury bathroom renovation.
Renovation season is in full swing! As a designer, one of my favourite rooms to renovate is the bathroom. Regardless of size, bathrooms often present challenges not always encountered in other areas of the home. However, challenges aside, we have been witnessing the bathroom evolve into a space that not only influences but even demands creativity.
Luxury and relaxation have become the inspiration of today’s baths. We have seen this area of the home become elevated over recent years to a highly-stylized space that not only evokes personal taste and style but a customized lavishness found in many of the “hotel-chic” spaces found during our travels. The “spa-like” retreats of Europe are finding their way into the average home by way of luxe finishes, rich marble and quartz, beautiful warm wood grains.
What we are also seeing is the introduction of many amazing designs for bathroom fixtures. Designers love to see the emergence of new product designs that inspires us. and luxury British bathing brand, Victoria + Albert is a company that definitely inspires. They most recently added the “Eldon” to their already extensive tub collection. This contemporary wall mounted tub design is endowed with the curvaceous lines of a freestanding bath, while maintaining a sleek seamless appearance. British Architecture and Interior Design Studio, Conran + Partners, creators of this beautiful new bath design, have applied their expertise learned through designing some of the world’s top hotels and residences, to inspire the “spa oasis” in your own home.
As with all Victoria + Albert’s baths, it’s constructed using the brand’s exclusive material, ENGLISHCAST®; a unique blend of Volcanic Limestone® and high performance resins with a number of beneficial properties. Warm to the touch, it ensures you never step foot into a cool bath while also retaining heat for longer! Perfect for long soaks. The high-end design is perfect for baths large or small, offering an elevated high-end look while still maintaining a practicality for day-to-day living that is not always found with many tub designs. What is most flattering about this tub is the simplicity it has, and the creation of a natural shelf that can facilitate deck-mounted faucets. With the addition of this style of bath along with a large custom walk-in shower, beautiful luxurious finishes and custom vanity you would be well on your way to creating for yourself the “hotel-chic” look.
A well-designed bathroom renovation does not only provide a higher return on investment (ROI), it also provides a venue to decompress, relax and “unplug” what better way than to enjoy the luxuries of a spa-like bathroom right in your own home.
Key tips to keep in mind planning your new “spa-oasis”
- When shopping for your new tub, get in and give it a “test-drive”. This tub is to be a place for relaxation so comfort should be of the utmost importance
- Ensure adequate storage for day-to-day living
- Select the best finishes your budget permits
