When warm weather hits, most homeowners turn to air conditioning systems to keep their family comfortable inside the house. But with today’s environmental concerns as well as the rising costs of maintaining air handling equipment, a cool breeze can be the best form of air conditioning around!
eieihome learned that Phantom Screens and cross ventilation can be used to your advantage – and save both money and the environment at the same time.
What is cross ventilation?
Cross ventilation is achieved by having two openings within a space with access to the outdoors, creating airflow across the space. When the openings are on adjacent or opposite walls, airflow is maximized, creating the best scenario for cooling your room.
Danny Motkaluk, Sales Manager of Ontario Screen Systems Inc., emphasizes the health benefits of cross ventilation. “In addition to adding comfort,” says Motkaluk, “introducing a fresh breeze into your home creates a healthier environment with a reduced presence of stale air and irritating odours.”
Attractive air flow management
Homeowners sometimes hesitate to open doors or windows due to concerns about letting flying insects into the home. Traditional door and window screens are bulky and unattractive. Providing natural ventilation while keeping flying insects out of the house, Phantoms’ retractable screens roll up into a compact housing when not needed, keeping them completely out of sight when not in use.
Cross ventilation can be used to reduce the need for summer air conditioning by letting cool air into the home during the breezier morning and evening hours. During cool days or in the spring or fall, air conditioning dependence can virtually be eliminated by using screens throughout the day.
Both form and function
Phantom’s retractable screens are available for virtually any door or window application, including double French doors, single or sliding doors; single-hung double-hung, casement, awning, sliding, or tilt ‘n turn windows; and balconies, lanais, porches, garage doors, picture windows, and custom applications.
