Deck out Your Deck

It’s that time of year where we upgrade and transform our backyards and decks into a Canadian paradise. This spring renovate your deck into the oasis it deserves to be. With these additions, you’ll be blown away at how much more time you’ll want to spend outside.

Stain The Wood

By staining the wood on your deck, you will bring this backyard necessity back to life from the cold and dreary winter it endured. When you stain the wood, you’re not only bringing the colour back but you’re also protecting it’s exterior for the upcoming year.

Add a Pergola

A pergola looks similar to a garden archway and it can also be used as a shady spot on your deck. If your deck is exposed to the sun, you may want to consider adding a pergola to shade you from the strong UV rays. A pergola adds sophistication and beauty while providing the perfect place to enjoy a summertime happy hour or friendly dinner party.

Additional Bench Seating

If your deck is low enough to the ground and does not require a railing, bench border seating is a great addition to your space. Adding a bench border offers more seating when guests are present but can also doubles as a showcase for your flowerpots. If you build these yourself, ensure they are built strong to hold enough weight for people to sit.

An Expandable Awning

Similar to a pergola, an awning provides terrific shade but you can choose when you need to use it  – even in damp or rainy weather. Delivering an attractive and contemporary look, you can purchase the fabric for your awning to perfectly match the other textiles you’re using in your backyard retreat.

Privacy Screens

Some of us have pesky, nosey neighbours and sometimes it’s nice to ensure that our business is kept to ourselves and installing privacy screens, like; a lattice or planting brush along your fence will allow you to do so. These are great options for keeping the neighbours eyes out of your backyard. Installing a lattice screen is easy and affordable – just visit your local home hardware store.

Solar Lighting

Lighting on our decks is an important addition in the summertime. We spend an abundance of time on our decks and sometimes the hours can slip away from us and before we know it, all we can see is fireflies. Make your deck safe this season by adding solar lighting that you can screw into the wood. Solar lights are convenient and require little to no upkeep.

Bring the Outdoors in

Don’t be afraid to spruce up your deck with cozy furniture and accessories. The summer months are short but as Canadians, we enjoy them immensely. Invest in quality furniture with colourful cushions that speak to your personality. As long as you take care of them and bring the cushions inside before a rain storm or if you know critters frequent your property, put them in your garage or a large storage bin.
