DIY Patio Furniture

DIY patio and backyard furniture can be a huge cash-saver, whether it’s repurposing old items or purchasing low cost supplies to build something new, you can customize your furniture to create something unique that no one else will have. DIY pieces are more than generic store-bought items, each one has a story and character. DIY patio and backyard projects are very popular, however with so many options it can be difficult to decide what projects to tackle and what materials to use. Here are 5 of the best materials to use, and some of the things you can make with them.

Natural Materials

Natural materials are one of the cheapest materials you can use when creating your DIY furniture. Popular items include rocks, tree stumps and branches, all of which can be found just outside your home. The possibilities are endless with everything from tables made from tree stumps, to wall art letters made from branches. Natural materials add an authentic nature element to your outdoor space that perfectly compliment the atmosphere.

Pallets and 2x4s

DIY wood projects are the most common, as they are so versatile. Pallets and 2×4 projects are not only diverse, they’re also extremely affordable, due to the low cost of the wood and limited amount of other materials required. You can create everything from tables and chairs to lanterns and planters. There is also a lot of freedom for design and personalization through different paint colours, wood stains, trim and so much more.

Cinder blocks

Cinder blocks are great for creating planters, fire pits and outdoor furniture. Concrete is an extremely durable material that can survive almost all weather conditions. It also has a sleek yet rough look that compliments the natural atmosphere of the outdoors. However, if you prefer a more finished or soft look, cinder blocks are extremely easy to paint. Cinder block planters have become very popular this year and are the perfect way to add an interesting visual piece to your outdoor space.

Tires are not as commonly used as other materials, simply because they are not as common to come by and they are expensive to purchase. However, if you plan on getting rid of some old tires there are an abundance of projects you can use them for to spruce up your yard. They are perfect for creating stylish seats and ottomans with lots of storage space inside, or a more common DIY, turning them into a garden planter. With some paint, twine and a little glue you can turn an old worn out tire into a beautiful piece of furniture.
