Didn’t attend the Fall Home Show? Here’s what you missed

It’s home show season! What a great opportunity to see what’s new and different when it comes to the home renovation industry. In case you missed this year’s Toronto Fall Home Show, not to worry! Here’s an overview of what you missed and what you need to know. Get inspired by the latest home decor ideas, then visit a furniture and home accessories store to keep up with trends!

City Smart Living

The City Smart Living section of the home show was designed to inspire future renovators when it comes to decorating new spaces. Taking a walk through the different spaces, including an office, kitchen, family room and bedroom, these trends were evident:

  • Gold, gold and more gold! Gold accent pieces are in! Whether they’re on the wall, or they’re a bookend on an office desk, these accessories draw the eye in and add a pop of colour to any space.
  • Small spaces can be functional. There’s a common misconception that a small space is too small for living quarters. Not true! A small space can be super functional when you add in the right pieces of furniture. For example, if you can’t fit a couch and love seat in the family room, purchase a L-shaped sectional! Want to put your knick knacks on display, but your office desk is too small? A shelf in the shape of a ladder that can be leaded against the wall puts them nicely on display, while adding another visual element to your office.
  • Mix colours and textures. Going back to the gold trend, we’re not only seeing the new colour in every facet of decor, but also seeing a healthy mix of colours and textures. Gold metal decor coupled with glass is a great mix of decor. No need to limit your home to one or the other!
  • Simplicity. Decor should accent a room, not take over  the space. What’s trending is lack of traditional, ornate pieces. Instead, spaces are designed with simple, yet fun decor pieces.
