Have you got your list of 10 prospects for doing your kitchen? Good. The next step to getting your kitchen done right: Take two weeks to observe how you use it. Where do you enter most often? What food do you make? What meals? Is it a communal space or just a place to prepare food? What bothers you about the layout? What works? You need to write your answers down. Two columns is good. A Pro and Con list, maybe. A Wish List/Hate List works, too.
During this process, it is function and facts you are focused on, not design. Don’t hurry. It’s been three years, what is another two weeks? This is the list that you will take to your builder prospects. Do a scale drawing of the kitchen and surrounding rooms. New ideas will emerge. Write them down. Now, get ready to shop!
