Give Your Bedroom a Facelift

Your bedroom is the place you go to unplug, relax and recharge for the next day. While it may be the most important room in the home, it’s often the last to receive your design TLC. We spoke with Decorium, a furniture store with two locations in Toronto – 363 Supertest Road and 1212 Yonge Street – that specializes in providing design consultations for over 28 years, for tips on transforming your bedroom into a cozy oasis.

Dress your bed

Fabric beds add an element of comfort and style to your abode. In addition to adding texture and colour to a room, they are cozy, comfortable and chic. “The nice thing about fabric beds is that you’ve got an assortment of fabrics to select from to create many different looks,” says Steve Forberg of Decorium. For those seeking a more traditional look, Forberg recommends a tufted fabric headboard in a textured, vintage velvet. A straight-lined headboard in a classic linen weave is a great choice to create a more modern look, while a sheen fabric can help add an element of glam to your bedroom, says Forberg.furniturehomeaccessories (2)

When selecting a fabric bed, take this into consideration:bedroom

  1. The size of your bedroom;
  2. The scale of existing furniture.

You can get an entire bed frame in fabric, but smaller rooms may be best suited by a fabric headboard only. While any fabric headboard instantly becomes the focal point in a room, those who really want to make a statement may opt for a higher headboard or simply add studs to the frame of the headboard. Decorium’s complementary design consultation can help you find the right fabric bed for your room. That’s right, complimentary!

Hang a chandelier

Add some sparkle to your bedroom with a chandelier. Your chandelier can be as glamourous as you’d like, with crystals to reflect light, for example, but make sure it doesn’t take away from the bed as the focal point in the room.

Use soft, neutral colours

Keeping the walls and furniture in a neutral tone allows you to have fun playing with accessories and introduce bold colours or large geometric patterns on bedding or window coverings to reflect your personality.
