Can your hardwood flooring improve indoor air quality? This is Pure Genius

We spent countless hours in our home. Often times, the air needs to be exchanged for fresh air, but when it’s cool outside, who wants to let the frigid air in? Quality indoor air is a necessity in any home. But can hardwood flooring improve your home’s air quality? Take a look!

Meet Pure Genius

Quebec-based company Lauzon Distinctive Hardwood Flooring has launched a hardwood flooring product that claims to purify the air in your home. Fittingly, it’s dubbed ‘Pure Genius.’

“All our floors are manufactured without solvents, volatile organic compounds or formaldehyde and meet the strictest standards for toxic emissions. Our floors with Titanium finish go even further in striving for purity through our exclusive advanced technology, Pure Genius. Pure Genius is a light-activated, air-purifying agent made of titanium dioxide, which is integrated into Lauzon’s Titanium floor finish,” reads the website.

It’s designed to make the air in your home 85% purer.

According to Canadian Contractor magazine, the flooring “continuously breaks down airborne toxins, creating a constant supply of pure air in the home.” Not only that, but the flooring comes in a variety of styles and finishes, so you can find an option that suits your taste and style while purifying the air.

Where does poor indoor air quality come from?

Your indoor air quality can be compromised thanks to these factors:

  • Improperly maintained ventilation and temperature systems;
  • Formaldehyde from carpets and furniture;
  • Paint;
  • Cleaning materials;
  • Pets.

How does Pure Genius work?

“The air circulation generated by your movement through a room or a fan is all that’s needed for the toxic contaminants present in the air to enter in contact with the active Pure Genius nanoparticles,” reads the Pure Genius website. It works without you even realizing it!

Pure Genius also works to remove odours from your home, including cigarette smoke and lingering cooking smells.

Sounds smart, but how much of a dent is it going to put in your wallet? The flooring, which is available at specialty retailers across the country, can be purchased for $5.25 to $12.75 per square foot. The price depends on the type of flooring and style you choose.
