Kitchen design ideas and trends for 2016

Looking for kitchen design ideas? If you’ve been reading home décor blogs or magazines, or watching any home reno shows lately, then you’ve likely noticed that the kitchen is no longer just the hub of the home, it’s the crown jewel.

Armed with online bookmarking sites filled with inspirational images, homeowner’s are eager to create designer kitchens that feed the eyes as well as the stomach.

eieihome sat down with Stephanie Haddad, Lead Designer with Elite Construction and Renovations, to learn more about the kitchen design trends to look out for in 2016.

Super – sized islands

“Homeowners are no longer entertaining their guests in the living room”, Hadded says. “[They] are hosting from their kitchens. Due to this change, kitchen islands are becoming a lot larger in size to provide adequate seating.”

Double-duty storage

If there is one theme that is common throughout most households in the GTA, it’s the need for more storage. In fact, Hadded says that they are a very common client request.

“A Common [solution] in almost all kitchens that Elite has been designing is [to provide]bench seating with storage space underneath”.

Black appliances

While the timelessness of stainless steel appliances has made a popular choice in most modern kitchens, Haddad says that a new trend is definitely on the rise.

“A lot more contemporary appliances have a black matte finish with brushed stainless steel handles”.

Mix and match

“A new trend developing is mixing materials and colours with the cabinets”, she says.“…the mix of colour and materials are being incorporated into the space to create a unique and sometimes eclectic feel”.

Elite Construction and Renovations has recently added design services to their offerings. This allows them to provide their customers with complete, start-to-finish service. “We are involved with the home owners throughout the entire process, starting with the initial consultation, into construction, ending with selecting paint colours and providing suggestions with furniture selection.”

Throughout the design phase, Elite provides homeowners with floor plans as well as rendered perspectives to provide an accurate indication of how their completed project will look.
