Who is Steve Soper?
Steve Soper is originally from Barrie, Ontario and he attended Georgian College where he received his Computer Programming degree in 2000. After graduation he went to work as a bartender at Casino Rama. He later went to work for Rogers Cable as a service technician for 3 years before he acquired a manufacturing company that he owned and operated for 4 years. The company made compressed air-operated products, which were used for a variety of different purposes.
Steve finally determined that he would like to combine his experience of being a business owner and his service technician experience and purchase a Mr. Handyman franchise. Between his years of being a technician and a company owner he figured it would be a good fit for him.
He loved the company’s philosophy and what Mr. Handyman represents. “I loved the support from home office, they didn’t seem like they were selling a franchise. It was more that they were making sure that the business was a fit for you,” Steve explained, “It’s a good investment too, relatively low cost and reasonable, and the ability to scale the operation depending on the state of the economy makes it a great business choice!” Steve went on to explain how you could have as many technicians on the road as required and that you could work out of your own home if desired.
What is Mr. Handyman of Richmond Hill & Southwest Markham?
Steve Soper is Canada’s newest Mr. Handyman. He incorporated his franchise, Mr. Handyman of Richmond Hill & Southwest Markham in July 2012 and moved to Vaughan from Barrie so that he could be closer to his assigned territory.
“To me,” Steve tells us, “Mr. Handyman is about taking care of the customer’s general to-do list; everything from painting, to carpentry, to larger renovation projects as well.”
Each Mr. Handyman is unique, and their technicians are all certified and have unique individual skill sets of their own, so the projects and jobs that a Mr. Handyman franchise can do varies from location to location.
The Mr. Handyman Corporation, which is based in Michigan, recently celebrated their 10th year in business. They have over 150 franchises in the States and have recently started to aggressively expand into Canada. The Mr. Handyman brand stands for “On Time, Done Right!” and their goals are to change the public’s view on handymen, to give them a professional appearance, as well as to show that they are licensed, bonded and insured. They also show up on time, do the job right and pick up the phone at all times.
What does Mr. Handyman of Richmond Hill & Southwest Markham specialize in?
Mr. Handyman specializes in the niche industry of the “to-do-list.” “If you call up to say you want a ceiling fan installed, or want to fix a broken wall, we’ll come and fix it. And while we’re there, if you come up with something else we can do that too. Nothing is too small for us!”
What does Steve enjoy about his work?
Steve enjoys working with customers and networking with them. “I like visiting the technicians on site and overseeing the work,” Steve tells us, “I like to move around and know what is going on. I also enjoy working with the customers, and not having to be in the office all day!”
Showcase Project:
Mr. Handyman of Richmond Hill & Southwest Markham installed a new hardwood floor for a rental building. The owner of the building found that the tenants were wearing down the carpet and decided to invest in sturdy hardwood floors to minimize wear maintenance costs.
