Who is Stephen Hutchinson of Mr Handyman of South Mississauga?
As a Chartered Accountant I was mainly involved in starting businesses. For over 20 years I took many of them public and I was often brought in from the very infancy of the business idea. In 2010, the locally owned company I was working for was sold to an Alberta based ownership group and I decided to look for something more local that I could own and manage. I came across Mr Handyman from a direct marketing piece, followed up, and a few months later purchased the franchise for South Mississauga.
I was also one of a small group that started Canada’s first direct to home satellite company. We had a big dream, limited resources but the passion resulted in one of our Country’s greatest businesses.
My Technicians have over 10 years of experience in various trades, are background-checked, bonded and fully insured. I ensure that my employees arrive on-time, in easily identifiable work attire and a logoed truck.
In the office, in addition to myself I have a Customer Service Representative and a fully trained and a capable 24/7 call centre available after hours.
What is Mr Handyman?
Mr Handyman recently celebrated its 10th year in business. I have been serving clients since March 2011 and recently earned the fastest growing franchise award. We are also a member of the Mississauga Board of Trade.
What does Mr Handyman specialize in?
Our technicians are generalists, but they each have skills they enjoy more than others. On some occasions we will recommend other trades people if a specific skill is required.
What does Stephen enjoy about his work?
I enjoy making people happy. Sounds plain, but it’s true. I monitor our success by our customers’ satisfaction. We recently started a promotion called SPOT THE VAN, where customers can vote to win 4 hours of service for a local charity. As a local business owner I feel obliged to give back to the community I earn a living in.
I was lucky to grow up with a Father that was very handy and he passed that knowledge along to me. However, this training was not the norm for many families. Because of this we, our technicians and myself, are able to serve clients that lack the time, talent or tools to perform the many tasks needed to keep one of their greatest assets, their home, in good shape.
Showcase Project:
We recently installed 5 sets of French doors in a customer’s hallway as they were using baby gates to keep the pets out of the living and dining room during the day. The opening was small and not square. It presented a challenge, but turned out great.
