Who is MyHaven Homes Ltd?
Our core team consists of our senior project manager and estimator, Jeff, who mostly works out of our office and myself, Paul Caverley, the Principal.
Jeff Anttila has a BA in Architecture and has worked in the industry since he was a kid working with his master carpenter Father.
I (Paul) have been in construction my whole life, and that’s a long time. I have a diploma in Building Engineering Technology from the British Columbia Institute of Technology. I have been Principal of My Haven for 9 years and also trademarked the proprietary green construction management process known as Enviro-LogicTM. I am also a firm believer in green values. I have had a lifetime of experience in all aspects of the development and construction business. As Principal I spearhead our green sustainable activities and oversee the company and its projects.
We have between 3 and 6 field staff including 2 degreed staff in various positions in our office and sites.
We have been featured in a few magazines including Style at Home, Canadian Interiors and, the best yet, Dwell magazine.
What is MyHaven?
Our company is 9 years old now. We generally do larger renovations, additions and top ups. We are Tarion registered and build custom homes as well. We work with Architects a lot, but we also provide design build services of our own. Our Enviro-Logic process of project delivery is a collaborative process which includes the Home Owner, Architect, other consultants and some of our preferred trades as well.
We act as consultants early on in the design stage and help to create the project scope, while also providing valuable construction input. Once everyone is on the same page and the budget and scope is defined we prefer to enter into a fixed price contract for the construction part of the project. This is a new way of providing renovation services; by encompassing concepts such as the Integrated Design Process, Value Engineering, and a more cooperative value added approach to the whole process overall. This process is key when providing green sustainable construction services, because it is important to design the house as a system to ensure it performs to its full potential.
We are members of Renomark, Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD), the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC), and the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
We have won the award for best renovation over $300k from BILD and have been runner up several times.
We are currently building our first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) home.
We are leaders in developing educational seminars for renovators and we are also working towards creating a rating system for renovations.
What does MyHaven specialize in?
We specialize in a collaborative approach to design and construction while incorporating sustainable construction materials, methods and systems.
What does MyHaven enjoy about their work?
We love that each home is unique/custom and tailored to the families we build for. It’s great to see their excitement when they move into their new and improved home.
Quick Tip!
Plan your project well. Working with a contractor early in the process allows for the contractor to intimately understand your expectations and your project, leading to an accelerated construction schedule and a more satisfying process and result for home owners.
Showcase Projects:
Full House Reno
This architectural design project was featured in Dwell magazine. This project was a whole house renovation, which included a complete upgrade of the insulation and rehabilitation of the basement. We air sealed the home and improved the energy performance. It featured quarter sawed oak engineered wood flooring, which is a local product. We also introduced a lot of natural light to the home by tipping the roof and adding a skylight that reached right down to the first floor.
L Loft Reno
This loft architectural design project featured an all natural concrete floor with radiant heating. Radiant heat systems work best in concrete, and in this case instead of covering it we polished the concrete floor to give it a smooth finish; this is an environmentally friendly and sustainable idea. We also added more space to the loft by reclaiming the brick columns by removing the drywall and studs from around them. The hot water system is a new high efficiency system that is part of the heating system. We also improved the overall ventilation, system, for example the bathroom now has a fan with a timer and a remote, and it ventilates both the bathroom and laundry room.
