Who is On Centre Design Build?
On Centre Design Build (formerly On Centre Development) was incorporated 14 years ago when two friends, Andrew Birdi and George Papadopoulos partnered together to create a general contracting company.
Andrew Birdi studied business at Seneca College and quickly moved into the construction industry where he has stayed for over 20 years.
George learned his craft at the job site, gaining expertise in many aspects of construction. He started out as a union scaffolding contractor and branched out into construction as well.
Both Andrew and George have always had a love working with their hands from the early days where they worked part-time at Lansing (purchased later by RONA) handling various construction materials and tools to today when they occasionally work together on site with their own sub contractors.
Did you know?
They started as dry-wall contractors and did a large amount of commercial work, including working on the Lady Hockey player section of Toronto’s Hockey Hall of Fame.
What is On Centre?
On Centre “is two guys working to build their company”. They have already gained a reputation for on budget, on time and quality workmanship on their projects. Unlike other general contractors, On Centre’s founding partners have not only the business side down, but have also worked on site as well. This offers their clients the added bonus of working with men that have true experience and knowledge in their field.
On Centre does it all, taking on any project that comes their way from kitchens and baths to new homes and additions.
What do they love about their work?
Andrew Birdi loves the design elements. After working for years in the industry he has keen insights into what can be done on projects. He especially loves residential projects where he can flex his creative muscle and create unique concepts for clients.
George Papadopoulos loves working with his sub contractors, saying that they are like a “mini-family” to him, further stating that “they are more together than apart.” He enjoys bringing together the contractors, smoothing communications, straightening out conflicts and creating good relationships.
Luxury Italian Bathroom
On Centre created a $70,000 Italian style luxury bathroom. Materials and products were imported from Europe to Canada to fulfill their client’s needs. They ordered faucets from Germany, tiles from Spain and cabinetry from Italy. This brought its own challenges, with the length of time of shipments to import delays. On Centre made sure to order carefully, taking into consideration that materials such as tiles (2’x4’ tiles in this case) can get damaged in shipment (because of this they ordered additional tiles as back up).
They also took on the challenge of placing a soaker tub within a shower; drainage, plumbing and overhead showers and even flooring were all a concern in bringing this luxury bathroom design into fruition.
Now you can see the results of all of On Centre’s hard work. Check out the heated tile flooring, towel warming racks, Italian faucets and all the luxury touches that made this bathroom come together in Italian elegance.
