Outdoor Trends for 2018

Summer is finally here, but now can be the daunting task of decorating your own backyard. Here are four tips to simplify the design approach so you can have your dream backyard oasis in a few easy steps.

One of the biggest trends for 2018 is curves in design. Gone are the days where decks are thought of as vertical and horizontal lines. Beautiful architecture combines stunning curves with vibrant boarders to transform an outdoor space into a stunning spectacle.

TIP: When you are designing your deck, try to incorporate curved boarders around pools, seating areas, bars, walkways or staircases.

Now is the time to embrace bold colours and outdoor patterns.  With an endless array of colour selections, backyard enthusiasts can bring the tropical oasis feel to their very own backyard.

TIP: When developing a colour scheme, remember the 80/20 rule. If your deck is neutral in colour and you want to add vibrant colours, try infusing the colours in limited amounts through decorative accents or furniture. This will add an element of delight to your design and will prevent the colours from being too overpowering.

Composite decking has become increasingly popular because of the longevity and sophistication it offers. The advantage in investing in composite decking, and why it is a trend again this year is that it is virtually maintenance free. It also requires no stains or sealants and is resistant to moisture, insects and sunlight.

Before you begin your design, it is a good idea to consider what colours you presently have in your home. In pulling inspiration from the colours you have indoors, you are extending the consistency of your design outdoors.

TIP: Staying with the colours you have indoors creates harmony and consistency and helps to establish your deck as an extension of your living space.
