Moving can be a complicated process; packing your all of your belongings and transfer them from one home to another is a lot of work. There’s a lot that needs packing and every inch of your home could end up full of boxes. Your main concern while moving should be if you’re packing your belongings properly.
Do you have the right materials and a safe place to store them throughout the moving process? We spoke with Leslie Kellen of All Canadian Self-Storage about the importance of proper packing and how self-storage can save you money.
All boxes aren’t made the same
Whether you’re moving, or putting your belongings temporarily into storage, you have probably found yourself driving around from store to store to collect cardboard boxes. The common problem with this practice is the boxes are often different sizes, they likely don’t close properly, or even have lids, says Kellen. “You can’t rely on them to stack quite effectively,” he says. “You have one box on top of another one and it’s a teeter-totter. It’s just not an effective way of packing.”
Kellen recommends using boxes designed specifically for the item you’re trying to pack. “There are special boxes for everything,” he says, adding homeowners can purchase boxes meant for clothing, dishes, flat screen televisions and lamps.

Make packing easy with the right boxes!
Use the right materials
Homeowners often place items in a large box without using bubble wrap, newsprint or packing paper, says Kellen. Not packing using these materials puts your belongings at risk o fbeing damaged.
“What’s the point in packing it if you’re not going to pack it properly?” he questions.
