Gus George took a risk when he opened his own home renovation business in 1990. The economy was in a recession, but his love for the industry inspired his decision. Last month marks 25 years of Platinum Home Design and Renovations. We spoke to George about how the company’s humble beginnings led to years of success and thousands of happy customers.
Platinum started out small
George had home renovation experience prior to opening “I had only one installation crew of two members, I was the sales representative, and we had one other office employee,” George recalls. “Now we have many associates working with us.”
Platinum has expertise in the window industry
Platinum specializes in windows and doors. To ensure the company provides a superior product, George partnered with other window experts to work with a private brand: Enerview Windows & Doors. The manufacturer provides quality windows, which can be purchased by select dealers in Ontario.
Platinum is moving into Improve Canada
There’s another reason for Platinum to celebrate its anniversary: George is partnering with a fellow window expert and opening a showroom in Improve Canada, located in Vaughan, just north of Toronto. The 320,000 sq. ft. facility is a one-stop home show that offers home goods and services. It’s set to open in December.
“I think it’s going to be incredible,” says George.
Platinum’s success comes from a personal touch
George’s focus hasn’t changed in the last 25 years: he wants homeowners to be overwhelmed by the completed project. “We treat every customer in the best possible way, and have been since 1990,” he says.
Once a job was completed, George follows up with his customer. “We still try to do as much as we can. That is the big key to our success that we are always following up with the customer.”
George treats every customer like they’re family. “It’s all about the personal touch at the end of the day.”
To date, over the past 25 years, there have been no registered complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau, which speaks to Platinum’s reputation.
