Tis the season for holiday gatherings both big and small. Admittedly, the smaller gatherings are among our favourites, complete with sappy, holiday movies, festive beverages, and scrumptious bites. What we don’t love is adding a ton of prep time and clean up to the evening.
That is where the Perfect Press from Breville really steps up to the plate. Picture this, a slow cooker bubbling with your favourite winter soup and a grilled cheese bar, where guests can choose from a selection of breads, cheeses and additions to create their own customized grilled cheese masterpiece.
Our Review of the Perfect Press
When Breville sent over the Perfect Press for us to try out, a grilled cheese bar was the first thought that came to mind, and this little workhorse definitely stood up to the challenge.
Construction –Right out of the box, you know that the Perfect Press is a high-quality small appliance. There’s some weight to this press, while its brushed stainless-steel construction gives it a modern attractive look. Bonus points for the brushed stainless, which is highly resistant to buttery fingerprints.
Quick Heating –1500 Watts of power means that the Perfect Press heats up quickly and stays hot. So you can use it on time-crunched weekday mornings, to create anything from dunkable French toast fingers to an open-face tomato and cheese toast.
Easy Cleaning –Ease of cleaning is definitely a big deal when it comes to something that comes into contact with melted cheese and other sticky bits. The flat plates on the Perfect Press have a PFOA non-stick coating, which means you can wipe away even the stickiest spills and drips …even if you’re making a decadent banana and Nutella stuffed French toast for breakfast …which may be on our list of things to try next!
Perfect Toasting –the Perfect Press comes equipped with Crush Control and an Open Melt setting. The Crush Control hinge is magical in its prevention of overly flattened sandwiches…a horror that even our favourite lunchtime destinations are almost always guilty of. Instead, you get a sandwich that is perfectly fluffy, while still giving you that buttery crispness that makes a toasted sandwich so enticing.
If you’re more in the mood for something like an open-faced Rueben sandwich, you can switch to the Open Melt Setting.
Easy to Store –The Perfect Press is big enough to grill two standard-sized sandwiches. This petite 12” x 11.5” comes equipped with a handy locking feature, which gives you the option of storing it upright or flat. That means it’s unobtrusive enough to sit out on a counter, or to easily tuck away in a cupboard.
One Nitpick –One of the inside edges on our press’s handle was a bit on the sharp side. However, we believe that this is probably an isolated issue.
Whether you use your Perfect Press to create fast family meals or for entertaining, it’s a good, solid tool, that’s easy to use, easy to clean, and stores neatly away when not in use.
