With the prices of electricity rising, more and more homeowners are looking to reduce their electricity bill and their reliance on non-renewable energy sources and are opting instead to install solar energy panels on their roofs. eieihome.com spoke with Nani Pradeepan of New Dawn Energy Solutions about the wide range of benefits of going solar.
But before we tell you about the benefits of solar energy, take a look at this video. It explains how solar energy works:
Reduce your electricity bills with solar energy
Electricity costs can eat up a large percentage of your home’s operating budget. By installing a solar energy system, you’ll be generating free power, drastically reducing your electricity costs. Even if you don’t produce all of the energy your home needs to operate, your utility bills will be significantly smaller, putting a lot more money in your pocket.
Protect yourself against rising energy costs
The experts agree energy prices are going nowhere but up, making it difficult for families to budget their long term electrical expenses. Solar power systems allow homeowners to insulate themselves against these rising costs by producing their own electricity on site.
Improve energy reliability
“As our electricity infrastructure in Ontario ages, this is going to increase the frequency of power outages,” says Pradeepan. Over the past few years, Ontario has seen more frequent power outages. Powering your home with solar panels decreases your reliance on Ontario’s power infrastructure and places the power back in your own hands, allowing you to generate your own electricity.
Take advantage of government incentives
Currently, the Government of Ontario is offering an incentive to homeowners who install solar systems. The MicroFIT program pays homeowners 38.4 cents per kilowatt hour of electricity generated by solar panels.
“Homeowners who install solar panels under this incentive program not only will earn up to $5000 annually for 20 years but will also reduce their electricity bill significantly in the future,” says Pradeepan.
This incentive program set to end in 2017.
Here’s everything you need to know about Ontario’s MicroFIT program:
Increase your property’s value
As home buyers are becoming more educated, homes equipped with solar systems are becoming more in demand and more valuable, generating a higher premium for sellers.
Protect the environment
Going solar is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. “The money is a short-term gain, but the long term benefit is the health of the environment that our future generation needs,” says Pradeepan.
