Once again your home survived Old Man Winter’s arctic blast. And while it looks to have come out the other side fairly unscathed, the exterior and even the yard could still use a little post-winter maintenance. We give you a few suggestions on how to spruce up your home for spring.
1. Spruce up your home with a fresh coat of paint.
Snow, ice, wind and rain can take a major toll on your home’s exterior. Give it a quick facelift with a fresh coat of paint. You can opt to do it yourself or hire a professional painter. If you do decide to DIY it, we suggest skipping the roller and taking the easy route by renting a paint sprayer — it’ll take less time and give you a smoother finish.
2. Hire a professional cleaning service for your home.
Although you’ve kept up a regular schedule of dusting, vacuuming and scrubbing, the interior of your home could still use a good spring clean. Save yourself the elbow grease and gift yourself the luxury of a professional cleaning service. They’ll clear out the cobwebs and ready your home for warmer weather. Consider yourself eco-conscious? Hire a company that only uses earth-friendly cleaning supplies.
3. Clean up your home’s yard.
Now that the snow and ice have melted you have a crystal clear picture of your yard — and frankly, it’s not all that pretty. Dead leaves, patchy grass and shrubs that have seen better days are all telltale signs that you’re in desperate need of a spruce up. Skip the headache and hire a professional yard service. At minimum, they’ll rake, fertilize and aerate your lawn. Some companies will also trim hedges and tend to your flower beds.
5. Get patio furniture for your home.
Warm weather calls for an outdoor area where you can sit and enjoy the sunshine. Problem is your old patio furniture brings new meaning to the phrase, “seen better days”. Scrap it for something new, or if you can’t afford a whole set, keep the frames and just replace the cushions.
6. Make your home sparkle with a window wash.
After a fresh coat of paint and a little yard rehab, it’s become apparent that your windows could use a major scrub down. If the prospect of getting on a ladder with a bucket and sponge makes you nervous, hire a professional window washing service. Not only will they get your windows to sparkle and shine, but some companies also offer packages that include cleaning your gutters as well.
