Subtle fall decor updates

The kids are in school, the leaves are changing colour and the weather has taken on the slightest chill. Fall is here, and for many people this is the time to add season-specific touches to their home décor. Of course, this doesn’t mean you have to turn your home into a full-blown pumpkin patch. There are countless ways to infuse your home with subtle autumnal updates that bring the gorgeous without overloading on the gourds.

Terrific coffee or tea carts

Did you spend all summer drooling over those impeccably- styled bar carts that kept popping up in magazines and online? Now that the cooler weather is here, why not turn one of those bar carts into a chic setting for your steamier sips? Add your teapot (or Keurig), a lovely set of cups and other essentials, then accent with a few select décor items and perhaps even a bottle of pumpkin spice Torani.

Throw blankets and pillows

The simple act of draping a cozy throw blanket over the arm of your sofa or chair suggests that the snuggly season has arrived. Add in a seasonal accent pillow or two and you’ll have created a comfortable and casual vignette.

Trad with a twist

The traditional autumnal colours of oranges, browns, golds and deep reds are beautiful, but certainly not everyone’s ideal. Fortunately, those traditional colours are not your only option. There are lots of rich jewel tones, neutrals, warm metallics and other options that combine to create absolutely stunning fall home décor pallette.

Natural (non-pumpkin) accents

When it comes to adding natural elements to your fall décor, classic orange pumpkins are only the beginning. Because autumn is synonymous with harvest time, food and fall go naturally hand-in-hand.

Dry goods like popping corn and nuts can be added to oversized glass vases and mason jars, while fruits like cranberries and apples make beautiful yet temporary accents. Bundles of wheat, bare branches, acorns and leaves are always classic additions, along with fall flowers like sunflowers and mums.

Save it for the centrepiece

If you enjoy the traditional fall colours and motifs (pumpkins and all), but want to keep things simple, add these seasonal touches in smaller controlled ways. Focus on creating a grand centerpiece or a foyer table vignette to express your appreciation for fabulous Fall.
