Top 5 Highlights From the GTA Home & Reno Show

Visitors filled Mississauga’s International Centre over the weekend, from Friday February 12th until Family Day Monday on the 15th, and was there to take it all in.

Forget the groundhog, when it comes to seeing signs of spring, we look to the appearance of the GTA Home and Reno Show! Nothing assures us that winter is on its way out (albeit reluctantly) like the prospect of completing some long put off projects around the house.

As always, this year’s show offered something for everyone to enjoy, whether you needed a contractor, doors and windows, or wanted to learn about colour trends for 2016. Here are our 5 favourite highlights from this year’s show.

The guest speakers are always our favourite part of the show and the advice and information we received from this year’s experts certainly did not disappoint. We learned about how technology is going to completely change the way we visualize and design a home’s interior, received a very detailed look into the season’s latest colour and design trends, and gained some important insights into how to prioritize your home projects.

In fact, we were so impressed by everything that these experts had to say, that you can expect to see detailed highlights of each season later this week. So stay tuned!

To say that this home was absolutely gorgeous would be quite the understatement. Well planned out and appointed with finishes straight from your favourite glossy home decor magazines, this 2079 square foot, 3-bedroom, factory-built bungalow offered substance and style in one neatly wrapped package.

Family-Friendly Fun

With the show taking place over Family Day weekend, it came as no surprise that it was packed with family-friendly fun. Our favourite was the Handyman Kids Corner, where the little ones got to paint their own wood character to take home.

Of course there were also some very interesting products aimed at families with kids, including princess castle bunkbeds and a company that can turn your basement into an iceless skating rink!

Technology @ Home

Gadgets and automation technology are becoming increasingly essential at home and the companies and products present at this year’s show definitely reflected the trend. We learned about everything from cord cutting options to home security, automated lights and window shades and even saw an ingenious automatic fire extinguisher!

Hands-on Help

In our opinion, the most valuable aspect of this year’s Home and Reno show was just how willing the experts were to offer constructive advice and opinions. This went beyond features like The Handyman Corner and Design Intervention – both of which talked to show visitors about design, DIY and home reno concerns. Many of the speakers extended invitations to chat about questions and concerns, and the exhibitors were friendly and extremely informative.

If you attend The GTA Home & Reno show this year, we hope you enjoyed yourself. We certainly did … and of course, we’re already looking forward to the National Home Show! Hope to see you there.
