Top 5 Home Improvement New Years Resolutions

Every January 1st, everyone makes a pledge to better himself or herself in the New Year. As much as we think we’ll stick to these resolutions, in most cases within a month or so they have been forgotten. Put a spin on classic New Years resolutions and this year make a pledge that will stick.

Get Organized

Take control of your kitchen clutter and build a pantry for the ideal kitchen chaos solution. Whether you’re building one from scratch or looking for something pre-made, kitchen pantries can be found at a variety of different home design or hardware stores.

Start the New Year by cleaning out your closets. De-clutter these spaces that tend to hoard things we don’t need. Sort things into two piles, one for donations and one for the trash. Wash the things you plan on donating and you’ll feel great for both cleaning out your spaces and giving back to your community.

Quality Time

Make the most of the time you spend with your family throughout the year by updating the family spaces in your home. Add a games room to your basement or do a revamp of your living room to create a warm and inviting space. A home renovation in a room you use frequently is an exciting addition you and your family will appreciate.

Shape Up

Getting in shape and taking on a healthy lifestyle is one of the number one New Years resolutions people make and a bandwagon that people will fall off quickly. This year, don’t let that happen to you. Consider creating a personal home gym. Find space in your basement where you can put up walls and lay down appropriate flooring for the ultimate home gym. Invest in a good cardio machine, some weights and you’re ready to go.

Learn Something New

Reading more and learning something new are two very popular New Year resolutions and these are easy ones to stick too because they go hand-in-hand. Visit your favourite bookstore, subscribe to a magazine or scroll through the internet on a subject that you want to learn more about or something that truly interests you.

We recommend reading up on real estate, home décor and home renovation trends. These are subjects that everyone should keep up-to-date on. Challenge yourself and learn more everyday, your friends and family will be amazed at your abundance of knowledge.

Save Money

This year, become more energy efficient and save money on your energy bill. Do a sweep of your home every night before you go bed to make sure all electronics and lights have been turned off. You may also want to check the sealing around your doors and windows, keep up with regular furnace maintenance as well as keep an eye on your thermostat to ensure your home is being kept at a decent temperature.
