Why did this roofer ditch asphalt shingles for metal?

New Steel Roofers specializes in steel roofing and provides homeowners across the GTA with metal shingles, a durable and versatile products that’s built to last decades and withstand the elements. Max Guerra founded the company in 1996. He saw issues with existing products on the market and wanted to provide customers with a reliable roofing option that would stand the test of time.

Guerra spoke to us about how New Steel Roofers became a leader in the metal roofing industry. Voted as the number one metal roofing company seven years running, he explains why metal shingles are the right choice for your home.

The Switch: Asphalt to Metal Shingles

Before Guerra started his own business, he was working for a roofing company that supplied and installed asphalt and fiberglass shingles. He quickly realized that the shingles wouldn’t last, forcing homeowners to repair and replace their roofs long before their guaranteed lifetime warranties.

“Customers were calling us, complaining that they had these shingles that failed them before their time,” he says. But having homeowners buy the same product over and over again, knowing it wouldn’t solve the problem seemed like a disservice.

No longer wanting to provide clients with the same product and same failed expectations, Guerra focused his energy on a product designed to last a lifetime: metal shingles. New Steel Roofers emerged to solve the problem Guerra realized would otherwise continue if other suitable roofing options weren’t made available.

“We gained traction right away,” says Guerra of his business venture. “Customers love the idea of investing in a permanent product that’s energy-efficient, environmentally friendly and looks great.”

A metal roof comes with a 50-year warranty, but are built to last anywhere from 80 to 90 years.

The company offers a wide variety of products, including painted metal and stone-coated steel shingles, that will fit every budget, he says. But Guerra warns that even a metal roof will have issues if it’s not installed properly.

Guerra is confident in the team he works with. “We have qualified installers that have been with us for a long time. They know what they’re doing and are used to the product they’re working with.”

The company’s workmanship and great reputation speaks to the quality of work and material homeowners can expect from New Steel Roofers.
