Cornwall Gravel Co. Ltd. and Grant Ready Mix Ltd. continue to upgrade and expand to meet the changing demands of today’s competitive construction industry. The Late Ivan Grant had a dream in 1949 to start a construction company. He built his own crusher which produced 400 tons capacity per day compared to today’s crusher at MacLeod Quarry, which produces more than 5,000 tons per day. In 1949, the company had three employees compared to today’s 200 employees. Ivan and Lionel have told many tales about the hardships of starting a construction company. This dedication has been passed on to his children and grandchildren. Ivan’s son, Lionel, now President, joined the company in 1950. Lionel, won the 1995 Lifetime Business Achievement award. Norvan Grant, Ivan second son joined the management team in 1966. A third generation of Grants, David, Chief Estimator, joined in 1979 after he graduated with a Civil Engineering degree, Cathy Grant, Office Manager, joined in 1981 after graduating with a B.A. in Economics and Peter, Head of the Asphalt Division, joined in 1989 after he obtained an Electrical Engineering degree.
